Climate Change Awareness Project - Production and Evaluation
Production
I took images from the internet which I believed would work well for either a print advertisement or a tv advertisement and then sorted them into separate folders of which would be used for the tv ad and which would be used for the print ad. I then used these images make 2 print adverts and also a tv advert.
Print advert editing: I edited my print adverts on photoshop. I used my chosen image as the background and then added text and the company logo.
TV advert editing: I used a selection of 12 images to create the visuals for the advertisement, the first 6 were images of the negative effects of climate change and the last 6 images were of the things we could do the help the environment. I then added a voiceover which I recorded myself on my phone explaining the negative ways we are impacting the environment and then half way through the advert how we could help improve how we live to help the environment. Finally, I added background music to the advert.
Evaluation
I decided to do 2 print adverts and a TV advert.
My print adverts were very inspired by the print ads I looked at in my existing product research. I decided to make the background an image of a damaged world, I used both a literal representation (a forest fire) and also an overexaggerated example (the world disintegrating). I thought both of these images were effective in their own ways and created a successful shock factor which is what I was going for in these ads. I also put a short but impactful caption over the top of it to encourage people to look more into climate change, I made sure the caption was short as most people on look at print ads at a glance and therefore wouldn’t read a big piece of information, I think the captions were effective as they get the viewers’ attention and are short enough to be read at a glance which is where I was going with this print advert design. Finally, I put the company logo and website address in case a viewer wanted to look into the ‘Greenpeace’ mission. However, I think I could’ve made some improvements. For example, I could have found better quality photos making the ads look better. I also could have made a portrait print ad as it would make it more universal allowing the ad to be shown on more websites, social medias, etc.
My TV advert was inspired by the second TV advert I looked at in my existing product research. I decided to take a serious approach for the TV advert rather than a comical approach like the other advert I looked at, this is because although I found both approaches effective, I felt the serious approach was more relevant to my project and it was something I would be able to create more successfully. In my TV advert I used a selection of images. The first of the images were images of the negative effects we have on the environment and different was the environment has been damaged, the second set of images were images of thing we could do to benefit the environment. I thought this was successful because it showed the damage, we have caused which I believe would make people want to change and then showed them how they could change for the better. I also done a voiceover explaining the images however the audio quality wasn’t very good as it was only recorded on my phone, and I will use better equipment in my later projects if they are available to me. Finally, I added background music to the video which was supposed to create a sense of hopefulness which I think it achieved.
