Climate Change Awareness Project - Existing Product Research

 Print advertisement research

Print advertisement 1:

A picture containing text

Description automatically generated

This is a print advertisement to raise awareness for climate change. It features an image of earth with emphasis on all of the negative things we are doing to the word. For example: drilling for oil, large factories, burning of fossil fuels, air pollution, deforestation etc. This is very effective coz it uses shock factor to make people realise all of the negative things they are dong to the world. The advertisement also features a short, but impactful, phrase "we are the world" with emphasis on the word 'we'. This is effective because its saying that we live in this world so we should care for it and the emphasis on the word 'we' implies that we are the only ones who can help the environment.

Print advertisement 2:

A person and person standing in water

Description automatically generated with low confidence

This is a print advertisement to raise awareness for climate change. It features an image of a zombie standing in an extreme environment (a storm and flood). The intention of this advertisement is to give a physical representation of how ridiculous it is that people think that climate change isn't real. It does this by showing that image along with the caption "1 in 4 Americans say zombies are real, 1 in 4 Americans say that climate change is not" this is effective because zombies are not real but climate change is and also because climate change is a much more realistic idea than zombies.

Print advertisement conclusion

In conclusion, both of these advertisements are very effective in different ways. I will attempt to create 2 print ads using the techniques I have learned from the two that I have studied and hopefully make an advertisement campaign which is just as effective. The phrases being short is also important as it gets straight to the point and gets the viewers attention as most people aren't standing around reading print advertisements so it has to be something the viewer can read at a glance.

This advertisement has a unique take on climate change. It features an action scene where a man is being shot at which makes the scene into a 'life or death' situation and his goal was to turn the temperature down on the washing machine and also to recycle rubbish. The advertisement then end with the caption "saving the world isn't just for the movies". This is an effective advertisement as it makes climate change seem very serious and also makes people feel like they are doing something very important to save the world and make them feel like they can actually do something to help by doing things as simple as recycling.

This advertisement has a very literal take on climate change. It begins with the destruction we have caused to the environment as well as natural disasters which have became more regular due to climate change along with clips of protests for climate change. About half way through the advertisement it cuts away to people helping the environment in various ways and also shows names of many nature documentaries. I think this advertisement is very effective as it shows the literal effects of climate change and how we can effect it both positively and negatively and also give you the option to further look into it by giving names of full nature documentaries which focus on the topic of climate change.

TV Advertisement Conclusion

In conclusion, both of these advertisements are very effective in different ways. I will attempt to create 1 TV advertisement using the techniques I have learned from the two that I have studied mainly focusing on the second advertisement I have studies as I believe it is more effective and something which I feel I could produce more effectively.
