Climate Change Awareness Project - Interpreting The Brief + Climate Change Research

Brief

Client

The client for this project is Greenpeace. Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organisation; they are launching a new campaign to raise awareness for climate change and to evoke change to our collective behaviour and practices in 2021. Their vision is to create a greener, healthier, and more peaceful planet that can sustain life for generations to come. They are an independent organisation. They do not accept funding from governments, corporations, or political parties - their work is funded by ordinary people. That means that they are free to confront governments and corporations responsible for the destruction of natural world and push for real change.

What is required from me

In this project I am required to produce a form of media that promotes awareness of climate change and the need for change. The outcome of this project should relate clearly to the campaign but can be created in any form of media as long as it clearly encourages people to make a real change within their lives and work as a collective to make a difference.

Non-exclusive suggestions from Greenpeace:

  • Advertising
  • Website
  • Commercial design/product
  • Radio or television broadcast/podcast

Questions I should answer:

  • Who is responsible?
  • How to stop climate change?
  • What are the effects of climate change?
  • How will climate change affect the UK?
  • What are the solutions to climate change?
  • what is the UK doing about climate change?
  • What can I do to stop climate change?

Audience

There is no specific target audience for this project however it believes it should be pushed more towards teenagers as they have the ability to change how they affect the environment and will also be the next generation of adults and I believe it is important to give them a good understanding of the environment.

Deadline

My deadline for this project is 24th September 2021.

Research

What is climate change?

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These can be both natural changes and changes caused by the actions of people. Rapid climate change has caused more extreme weather, natural disasters, and an overall increase in the Earth'stemperature.

Causes of climate change

One of the main causes of climate change is the release of greenhouse gasses which are released by the burning of fossil fuels (gas, oil, coal). Another big cause is littering and landfill where non-biodegradable objects release chemicals and can effect wildlife by taking away their environment, it can also get into oceans and destroy eco systems both on land and under water. Deforestation (chopping down trees) is also a big cause of climate change as trees give us oxygen and by removing them there is an increase in carbon dioxide.

Preventions of climate change

  • Recycling
  • Do not litter
  • Use an alternative to driving
  • Grow your own food
  • Eat less meat
  • Solar Panels
